After three episodes of the Journey to the West podcast, we decided it was time to publish a website. Why? For three major reasons:
- Imagery: The Journey to the West has inspired generations of readers and artists to create a rich and fantastic array of artwork, videos, pictures and other visuals to accompany this 500-year-old story. At turns beautiful, hilarious, frightening, heartwarming, and even bizarre, many of these images have to be seen to be believed, and we just can’t do that with the podcast alone.
- All the Good in One Place: We really wanted our podcast to be a resource for everyone to enjoy this marvelous classic. Whether you’ve taken the journey before or have yet to encounter the marvelous exploits of the Monkey King and his traveling companions, we hope to deepen your understanding and love of this classic and all that surrounds it. Not only will you be able to get the latest episodes as they get published, subscribe with your platform of choice, and see artist’s depictions of the book’s various characters, but you’ll also be able to access future treasures like swag, contests, transcripts, and more.
- Bonus Materials: James and I realized pretty quickly into our run that we wouldn’t be able to cover everything in our 45-to-60 minute format when each episode is so packed with references and details. Entire essays have been written on minutiae that few listeners would want to know, but for those few listeners, this stuff is gold. Here is where all that extra gold can thrive.
