The stealing of the Peaches of Immortality is another favorite theme explored by many artists throughout Chinese history. While we tend to associate monkeys with bananas, in China, monkeys are just as likely to prefer other fruits. As for Wukong, the peach has become one of his trademarks. So much so that if you see an Asian rendering of a clothed monkey with a peach, chances are you’re looking at the Monkey King.
